AFCW 7 Wolverhampton United 2 (JW Hunt Cup)

AFC Wulfrunians progressed in the JW Hunt Cup with a comprehensive 7-2 victory over local side Wolverhampton United. Joe Davies netted a first half hat-trick to help his side.

Davies had a great chance after just three minutes. King fired in a free kick from halfway but the forward poked it over the bar from close range.

Another good delivery from King was this time met with a finish. He beat two players on the left and his inch-perfect cross was finished from close range by McDonald.

Just a minute later, however, the visitors were level. Lee Coney got behind the defence on a quick break before firing past Danny Tipton with some help from the post.

Two goals in three minutes by Davies allowed Wulfs to regain the lead. He poked home from close range after Ryan Talbot’s shot was saved and then added his second after he latched onto King’s blocked effort.

He completed his hat trick after just 32 minutes. Nic Haynes and King linked up only for King to be brought down by the ‘keeper in the area. Davies stepped up and calmly sent him the wrong way for a nine-minute hat trick.

Wulfrunians added another five minutes after the break. McDonald’s cross was punched upwards by the ‘keeper- only for Hill to loop a header over him into the far corner.

Rose-Laing was denied a goal by a fantastic save. He fired first time from the edge of the area but the ‘keeper got a strong hand to it to keep it out.

He did grab himself a goal just a minute later- Thompson beat a man then pulled it back to allow Rose-Laing a simple finish into the corner.

Wulfs added another after 83 minutes, Jordan Perks hit the post with his effort from the edge and King finally added his own goal as he fired the rebound in.

Wolverhampton United added a late consolation, as Tom Lawton fired past Tipton from just inside the box.

Wulfrunians now move onto Saturday’s home game against Coleshill Town as they look to continue their good run in home games.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Perks, Jones (Howells 72), Rose-Laing, Hill (Palmer 75), Talbot, McDonald, Haynes, Davies (Thompson 36), King, Robertson.
