AFCW 1 Boldmere St Michaels 2 (FA Cup)

AFC Wulfrunians went out of the FA Cup after a 2-1 defeat at home to fellow Midland Football League side Boldmere St Michaels. Roland Agbor struck a late winner for the visitors after they’d had Rob Clarke dismissed for two yellow card offences.

After an even opening few minutes it was Boldmere who opened the scoring in the 7th minute when Jason Holmes cut in from the left, skipping past a couple of defenders before slotting past ‘keeper Jono Brown.

Jamie King tried to level matters but his long range shot was comfortable held by Adam Jenkins.

Wulfs came close to an equaliser in the 26th minute when Dan Parker climbed highest to meet a Scott Stevenson corner but his header was blocked on the line by Peter Gould before being cleared.

A half time talk inspired Wulfs and they found an equaliser in the 49th minute. Jamie King exchanged passes with David Howells before firing a shot across the keeper and into the far corner of the net.

Things seemed to move even more into Wulfs’ favour as Boldmere were reduced to ten men when Clarke was dismissed for a second yellow card offence.

Wulfs pushed forward for a winner but the visitors were still dangerous on the break and it was from a quick counter attack that they grabbed what turned out to be an 81st minute winner. Roland Agbor picked the ball up 25 yards out and nipped between two defenders before sliding the ball past the keeper.

Despite Wulfs throwing everything at Boldmere in the closing stages, the ten men held firm. Their only scare came in injury time when ‘keeper Jenkins had to be at full stretch to tip Jake Sedgemore’s free kick around the post.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Brown, Jones, Talbot, Sedgemore, Hill, Parker, Perks (Thompson 25), Howells, Gregg, Stevenson (Thomas 85), King (Robertson 68).
