Causeway United 1 AFCW 1

AFC Wulfrunians will consider this as two points dropped as they were held to a draw at Causeway United. Wulfs dominated the game and despite going behind to a Reece Shilvock strike, they added a goal of their own through Brad Lawley and should have had many more.

The visitors started the better of the two sides, with Andy Thompson twice having the chance to put them in front within 10 minutes. He was put in by Scott Stevenson, but his shot was saved. Then, he tussled with a defender before winning the ball but he could only fire his shot over.

It was Causeway, however, who had the best chance of the half, after 27 minutes. Ryan Wollacott played a great ball in for Rion Francis-Mills behind the Wulfs defence but Danny Tipton managed to push his attempted lob away.

Thompson again could have put his side ahead after 53 minutes. He ran clear of the opposition defence but his shot took a bobble just as he struck it and flew high over the bar.

Five minutes later, a stunning strike from Jake Webb almost put his side in the lead. He cut in from the right but his curling effort rattled the bar and bounced clear, allowing the ‘keeper to collect it.

A mistake from Rich Golding allowed Causeway to go in front. He misjudged a header, which fell to Aaron Lloyd, who broke clear before laying off for Shilvock to power it into the bottom corner.

Lawley should have put his side level after some great work by Jacob Craner left him in an excellent position; however he lacked composure in the area and dragged his shot wide.

It was Lawley who eventually got the equaliser for Wulfs with 12 minutes remaining. Craig Gregg pulled the ball back to him on the edge of the area and he curled it across the ‘keeper and into the corner.

Causeway were reduced to 10 men in the final minutes of the match.  Substitute Adam Jarret was sent off for a second bookable offence as he brought down Craner but his dismissal was too late to give Wulfs an advantage.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Sedgemore, Perks, Palmer (Lawley 72), Golding, Skedgel, Thompson, Hurren, Gregg, Stevenson, Webb (Craner 72).
