AFCW 2 Stourport Swifts 1

A second half brace from AFC Wulfrunians’ Craig Gregg, including an 87th minute winner, helped them come from behind to defeat Stourport Swifts. Swifts had previously been in front courtesy of Jordan Jones.

It was Jones who provided nearly all of the first half action; first he fired just over from range after beating 20 minutes and 13 minutes later he put the visitors ahead. His weaving run saw him cut inside from the left and his shot was fortunate to trickle past Danny Tipton’s outstretched glove after it had been deflected.

Skipper Jake Sedgemore provided Wulfs’ only opportunity of the first half- his free kick five minutes before half time grazed the crossbar as it curled just over.

It wasn’t until the 76th minute that the hosts had a clear chance to equalise. Substitute Michael Robertson squandered a fantastic opportunity as he blazed his shot over following Lewis Solly’s weak punch of a corner.

It was another corner which eventually led to Wulfs levelling the game. Robertson flicked on a near post corner to Gregg; he managed to fire the ball pastSolly amidst a crowd of players in the six-yard box.

Wulfs then took the lead with three minutes to go through Gregg’s magnificent chip. Andy Thompson played a great ball to put him in behind the defence and Gregg showed great awareness to see Solly off his line and place the ball over his head and into the top corner.

Wulfrunians survived two late scares from CalvinDinsley, with him having two opportunities in the dying minutes to snatch a draw. Both of his efforts came from free kicks; his first was struck with power but flew over, the second was struck with more finesse and was well collected by Tipton.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Sedgemore, Griffin (Robertson 62, Palmer, Golding, Skedgel, Perks, Lawley (Thompson 69) , Gregg, Stevenson (Howells 88), Webb
