AFCW 1 Coleshill Town 2

AFC Wulfrunians were condemned to defeat by a battling Coleshill Town side in a game where neither side really got going. Jazz Luckie got the decisive goal for the visitors after Ryan Nash had put them ahead earlier in the game, Nathan Rose-Laing netted in reply for Wulfrunians.

Wulfs started the game the stronger side and had the majority of the early chances, the most significant of these came when Michael Robertson’s driven first-time effort rattled the crossbar after 27 minutes.

Just eight minutes later, however, Coleshill took the lead. Matt Brown had a simple chance to score from close range following a mistake at the heart of the Wulfs defence, but he managed to miss-hit his effort and the ball fell to Nash and he fired in from the edge of the area.

Rose-Laing equalised for Wulfs on the stroke of half time as he finished a move that he orchestrated. He played a fantastic ball through to Craig Gregg on the left-hand side before driving into the box to get onto the end of the cross and glance a header into the far corner of the net.

The second half started at a much slower pace than the first, with the first chance not coming until he 63rd minute. Rich Golding’s header for Wulfs was hooked off the line Ashley Bradshaw.

Andy Thompson had a great chance as Wulfrunians continued to try and gain a lead, he connected superbly with Scott Stevenson’s cross but his header cannoned off the crossbar before bouncing away.

With 17 minutes to go, Coleshill managed to take the lead. ‘Keeper Paul Hathaway launched a long free kick into Wulfs’ area and substitute Luckie flicked it on with enough power to send the ball over Danny Tipton’s head and into the net.

Both teams had opportunities to score again in the late stages, Jordan Perks had his effort well saved for Wulfs and Brown saw his header from a corner strike the bar for the visitors as they tried to force for a third goal to kill the game off.
