AFCW 0 Tividale 3

AFC Wulfrunians slipped to a home defeat as they were beaten by a more clinical Tividale outfit. The game could have gone either way for the first hour; before Nathan Waite put the visitors in front- a strike which led to them pushing on and adding two more goals without a Wulfs reply.

The opening exchanges saw both sides create very little; the only chance of note fell to Tividale’s skipper, Mark Smith, but he blazed his effort from Leigh Downing’s cross high over the bar.

Scott Stevenson had Wulfs’ best effort on the stroke of half-time, his chipped effort from the edge of the area required Jack Hayfield to scramble back to his line and tip it over.

A double Wulfrunians substitution at the interval forced them into a period of dominance at the beginning of the half. Andy Thompson capitalised on a defender’s slip with a first-time shot but it was too close to Hayfield and his instinctive stop kept the scores level.

Thompson continued to have chances for Wulfs, his shot from the edge of the box was deflected behind and from the ensuing corner his effort struck the post.

The turning point for Wulfs came after 54 minutes, Dave Asbury’s header was chalked off for a soft foul which occurred as he rose to meet Stevenson’s corner.

Waite opened the scoring on the hour mark; some excellent play from Ryan Winwood meant that Waite was presented with a simple chance which he tapped in from close range.

Winwood was again prominent as Tividale doubled their lead just five minutes later; he dribbled past two players before his cross was turned in by Karl Edwards.

Downing completed the scoring for the visitors with a driven free-kick into the top corner which gave Danny Tipton no chance.

It was Tipton, however, who ensured that Tividale’s lead remained at only three goals- he produced two excellent saves to prevent substitute Kieran Miller from close range.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Griffin (Perks 45), Burd, Sedgemore, Golding, Asbury, Webb, Rose-Laing (Lawley 71), Thompson, Stevenson, Robertson (Palmer 45).
