Quorn 6 AFCW 1

AFC Wulfrunians were soundly beaten by Quorn in a game where both sides were reduced to 10 men. Callum Earls and Liam Read both struck braces for the hosts with Craig Gregg scoring what turned out to be a consolation goal for Wulfs.

Wulfs started the opening exchanges the better side and came closest early on; Scott Stevenson’s cross was headed just wide by Jake Webb.

Danny Tipton kept the game scoreless when he acrobatically flung himself at Earls’ curling volley to tip it over the crossbar. But, from the resulting corner, Quorn took the lead. Some miscommunication as the corner came in led to Jordan Wakeling being unmarked six yards out and he made no mistake in smashing the ball home.

Wakeling had the chance to add his second and double his side’s lead three minutes before half-time, Earls did well to cut the ball back to him but Tipton was on hand to produce a fantastic save to keep it out.

Earls added the second on the stroke of half-time, Read’s shot was well saved but the rebound fell straight to Earls and he fired it into the empty net.

Read extended Quorn’s lead just four minutes after the restart, he used his pace to get behind the defence before finishing with the help of the post.

Lewis Dodd gave the visitors the chance to get back into the game when he was sent off for leaving the ground and using excessive force in a challenge with Nathan Rose-Laing.

Wulfrunians used the extra man to their advantage, pulling one back after Gregg rounded the ‘keeper and fired in from the edge of the area.

Wulfs’ day got worse after 68 minutes, Tipton was sent off for handling the ball outside his area and denying a goal scoring opportunity. Skipper Jake Sedgemore stood in for Tipton and his first action was picking the ball out of the net after Karl Whymark smashed the resulting free-kick into the top corner.

Substitute Alex Honour won a penalty for Quorn when he was tripped by Ash Burd in the area and Read converted from the spot for his second of the game.

Earls added his second and Quorn’s sixth with just minutes remaining, he rose on the edge of the six-yard box to head home Honour’s cross.

AFC WULFRUNIANS LINE UP: Tipton, Sedgemore, Burd, Palmer (Howells 45), Golding (Perks 45), Asbury, Webb, Rose-Laing (Thompson 55), Gregg, Stevenson, Lawley.
