Boldmere St Michaels 5 AFCW 2

A brace from Boldmere St. Michaels’ Ryan Edmunds helped to sink AFC Wulfrunians in a match that featured a score line which didn’t do the visitors justice.

Wulfrunians took the lead in the early stages; skipper Jake Sedgemore curled a free-kick, which evaded everyone, past the unsighted James Beeson and into the top corner.

Jason Holmes equalised almost instantly, he met Ross Clarke’s free-kick with a powerful header at the near post which found the back of the net courtesy of the woodwork.

Edmunds wasted two good chances to give Boldmere the lead before he put them ahead after 24 minutes. His first effort was deflected safely into the hands of Danny Tipton and he couldn’t quite reach Clarke’s cross even though he flung himself at it.

When he eventually scored, it was a fantastic solo effort- he picked the ball up on the right and showed great skill to turn Richard Golding twice before leaving Tipton with no chance as he powered it home.

Edmunds added his second- and his side’s third- in a vital moment which killed Wulfs off on the stroke of half-time. Lee Osborne broke quickly on the left before squaring the ball to the waiting Edmunds who fired it into an empty net.

Neither side forced a second-half opening until the 69th minute, when Boldmere furthered their lead again. Andy Lewis took the ball past two defenders before Tipton forced his effort behind from a corner, from the subsequent corner Wood deflected the ball across goal and past the ‘keeper.

Nathan Rose-Laing gave the visitors the slightest glimmer of hope with 17 minutes to go; he poked home from close range after Dave Asbury had headed a corner onto the bar.

Jordan Perks almost made the last few minutes very interesting, only for his effort from Jake Webb’s cross to be well saved. Any hopes of a Wulfrunians comeback were diminished in the 93rd minute; Edmunds was this time the provider as he played a ball through for substitute Stuart Capaldi to finish.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Sedgemore, Spittle, Palmer (Stevenson 71), Golding, Asbury, Perks (Robertson 87), Rose-Laing, Gregg, Thompson (Webb 45), Howells
