AFCW 0 Birmingham City 2 – B’ham Senior Cup

Goals from Charlie Adams and Liam Truslove were enough to see Birmingham City record a victory, despite a battling performance from AFC Wulfrunians.

Adams was Birmingham’s most influential player as they dominated the early stages of the game; his testing shot from the edge of the area was well turned behind by Sam Pearson – Wulfrunians’ debutant ‘keeper – for a corner. He then saw his 34th minute effort well saved by Pearson as he struck the ball with venom but the debutant did well to keep it out.

It came as no surprise when it was Adams who opened the scoring for the visitors; he managed to force the ball in from close range after he reacted quickest to the goal line scramble that followed Truslove’s corner.

It was Truslove who provided the only other chance of the half after 38 minutes, he met Viv Solomon-Otabor’s cross with a powerful volley but Richard Golding did well to block it before it reached the ‘keeper.

The Blues doubled their lead just 11 minutes into the second half; Bobby Moseley’s cross was attacked brilliantly by Truslove and this allowed him to be in the perfect position to head the ball past Pearson.

The only other chance for the remainder of the game came with 26 minutes remaining, Moseley did well to find himself in an advanced position and when he received the ball six yards out, it was only a last-ditch clearance off the line by Golding which prevented him from extending Birmingham’s lead.

This result sees Birmingham City through to the next round of the Birmingham Senior Cup whilst condemning Wulfs to their sixth consecutive defeat- a run they hope they can end when they travel to Boldmere St. Michaels this weekend.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Pearson, Perks (Robertson 58), Griffin, Lawley, Spittle, Golding (Skedgel 72), Webb, Rose-Laing, Gregg (Blackwell 66), Stevenson, Howells
