AFCW 0 Causeway United 2

Two goals in added time for Causeway United saw AFC Wulfrunians condemned to an undeserved defeat, Jack Pearlman got the first with a spectacular effort before Matt Weyman scored with what was virtually the last touch to win the game.

Wulfrunians started much the better side and could easily have gone ahead after 18 minutes, Tom Piggott latched onto a quick free-kick from Jake Sedgemore only for his chip over the ‘keeper to land on the roof of the net.

Brad Lawley also had the chance to open the scoring for Wulfs; his shot from 25 yards was brilliantly tipped away by Tom Turner.

Causeway’s only first half chance came when Jovan Blaise-Walker’s shot on the turn was excellently palmed away by Danny Tipton.

Lawley again had the chance to give Wulfs the lead when he met Jake Webb’s floating cross, only for his header to fly over the crossbar.

Tipton was again called into action shortly after the interval- first he saved from Pearlman’s long range effort before showing great awareness to force Alex Cowley’s mis-hit cross away for a corner.

Blaise-Walker again forced Tipton into a pair of saves when he broke clear on the left-hand-side, his strike across goal was saved well by Tipton’s feet before the follow up was blocked and rolled through for the Wulfrunians ‘keeper to collect.

Scott Stevenson had Wulfs’ only chance of the second half; he was teed up by Michael Robertson on the edge of the area but saw his curling effort fall just wide.

It wasn’t until the 91st minute- having withstood heavy pressure from Wulfs- that Causeway took the lead, Sam Rock’s cross appeared to have been cleared but Pearlman took the ball on his chest with his back to goal and produced a stunning overhead kick, which went in off the underside of the bar.

Wulfs then proceeded to throw everything into their attacks and ultimately this was what led to Causeway adding a second to finish off the game. A Stevenson corner was cleared to the edge of the box, where Wisdom Machangani picked it up and drove at the final Wulfs defender before selflessly laying it off to Weyman who slid the ball home to complete Causeway’s win.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Tipton, Sedgemore, Burd, Lawley (Perks 85), Golding, Asbury, Webb, Rose-Laing, Piggott (Thompson 68), Stevenson, Robertson (Howells 85).
