Shepshed Dynamo 1 AFCW 0

AFC Wulfrunians slipped to their first defeat of the season as a solitary goal from Keiron Davies consigned them to defeat away at Shepshed Dynamo.

It was Wulfs who started the game brighter and they should have gone ahead as early as the first minute when Nathan Jackson found himself completely unmarked from a Scott Stevenson free kick but his close range header was scraped wide by keeper Ryan Thacker.

The game continued to be very open with Luke Edwards missing a great chance for Shepshed when he side-footed over from close range while, at the other end, David Howells saw his effort cleared off the line.

Steve Chaplin then headed wide for the home side when completely unmarked while Stevenson  had a great chance for Wulfs after a neat one-two with Craig Gregg had put him in the clear but somehow the score remained goalless in to the half-time interval.

The second half started in the same vein as Stevenson should have done better after running on to Brad Lawley’s ball over the top.

It was Shepshed who finally made the breakthrough in the 66th minute when Davies tried his luck from outside the area and his shot took a deflection and spun and bounced into the far corner.

Substitute Zak Ginvert should have extended the lead when he was put in the clear but he slid his shot wide of the far post.

Wulfs rallied late on and put the home side under a lot of pressure with Jackson firing over from the edge of the area and James Skedgel twice going close but Shepshed held on for the win.

TEAM LINE UP: Tipton, Hill, Griffin (Skedgel 80), Lawley, Jackson, Asbury, Webb (Piggott 65), Rose-Laing, Gregg, Stevenson, Howells (Robertson 76).
