Pilkington XXX 0 AFC Wulfrunians 3 – FA Vase

A rotated Wulfrunians side achieved a routine win in the FA Vase against Midland Combination side Pilkington XXX. Jordan Perks, Nathan Rose-Laing and Jake Webb supplied the goals in a game where the hosts offered no real threat to Danny Tipton’s goal.

Right from the start it was Wulfs who were in control, Webb’s shot after a scramble in the box struck the post for their best early chance.

When Wulfs took the lead on 19 minutes, it was down to some lovely build-up play. Perks carried the ball from the halfway line and played a one-two with Tom Piggott before curling his effort round the keeper and into the top corner.

Pilkington almost had an instant reply through Dan Tierney, but he dragged his effort from the edge of the area across goal and wide.

Their only other opportunity came 13 minutes prior to the interval, some good link up play between Connor Mooney and Jack Lodge saw the latter break clear of the Wulfs defence, however his effort was easily palmed away by Tipton.

It was again fantastic football in the build-up that lead to Wulfs’ second of the afternoon; Ash Burd played a wonderful cross-field ball to Webb, who’s deep cross was headed home at the back post by Rose-Laing.

James Skedgel came close to increasing AFC’s lead on the stroke of half time, his prod at goal from a Burd free-kick had to be awkwardly forced away by the goalkeeper.

Just three minutes into the second half, Wulfs were almost at it again; Craig Gregg laid off Rose-Laing outside the area but Chris Mole’s solid save prevented him from adding his second.

On 67 minutes it was a role reversal, this time it was Rose-Laing who turned provider for Gregg but his effort from the left hand-side was well saved again by Mole.

Webb finally completed Wulfrunians’ scoring with two minutes to go, Scott Stevenson played the ball to him outside the area and he beat one player before firing past the keeper via his upright.

This result sees Wulfs entered into the pot for the next round, for which the draw will be made on Monday.
