Sedgemore completes remarkable comeback

An injury time penalty from skipper Jake Sedgemore gave Wulfs all three points after an incredible 11 goal thriller away at Wellington.

Wulfs looked down and out when they went in at the interval 3-0 down but a stunning second half comeback turned the game on its head.

It was the home side who made all the early running but Wulfs had a great chance to open the scoring when Nathan Rose-Laing put Ricky Anslow clean through but his attempted chip was half stopped by keeper Dan Tecza and Craig Sewell got back to clear the ball to safety.

After surviving that scare Wellington took a 14th minute lead when Jack Lewis rose highest to head home Matt Williams’ corner.

Two minutes later they extended their lead with a virtual carbon copy but this time it was Sewell who headed home a Williams corner.

Wulfs then started to get in to the game with Dave Asbury having a header cleared off the line and Robin Sheffield forcing a superb full length save from Tecza.

With the half drawing to a close, Wellington dealt Wulfs a massive blow by adding a third goal when Aaron Morgan beat the offside trap before slotting under keeper Danny Tipton.

Grant Joshua was introduced for Wulfs at the break and gave them a lifeline when he pulled a goal back in the 54th minute. Anslow collected a ball forward from Asbury and laid a short pass off for Joshua to fire home first time.

The same player then reduced the deficit further still just after the hour mark when Danny Crudgington’s corner was headed out to the edge of the area where Joshua fired a spectacular volley into the top corner.

Wulfs hopes of levelling were dealt a blow when Wellington restored their two goal lead in the 64th minute. Williams was again the provider driving in a free kick which Sewell headed home at close range.

Wulfs didn’t let their heads drop and pulled a goal back in the 75th minute when Anslow picked up a ball from Sheffield and laid back for Rose-Laing to fire home.

It got better still three minuets later when Rose-Laing headed home an equaliser after Sheffield had hooked a ball back into a crowded penalty area.

The joy was short-lived as the hosts took the lead again five minutes from time. Russell Jones delivered a dangerous ball in behind the visiting defence that eluded everyone until Will Burley arrived late to stoop and head home at the far post.

That still wasn’t the end of it as Wulfs were level again within a minute. Substitute Tom Piggott fired in a low ball from the left which Anslow squared for Rose-Laing to complete his hat-trick.

With the game into its second minute of injury time, Wulfs went ahead for the first time. Anslow foraged in the area before being brought down unnecessarily by Dale Withers. Jake Sedgemore kept his cool to convert the resulting spot-kick and complete an amazing second half fight back.
