AFCWulfrunians and Dudley Town had to settle for a share of the spoils after a hard fought 1-1 draw at the Castlecroft Stadium.
It was the visitors who made the brighter start and they thought they had taken a 5th minute lead when Niki Faux broke clear and slotted past the keeper but their celebrations were halted by the linesman’s offside flag.
Dreniz Bala was next to go close for Dudley, first when he produced a neat turn and shot across goal that went just wide and then when his miss-hit shot looped against the crossbar after a melee in the Wulfs penalty area.
Wulfs first sight of goal came in the 24th minute when Aaron Brown sent a raking ball out to Grant Joshua and he showed a great first touch before cutting inside and firing a shot that was pushed away by Dudley keeper Jay Travalen.
The only other chance of the first half came four minutes before the interval when Dudley full back Barry Richards sent in a deep cross which was controlled by Danny Ludlow but keeper Danny Tipton was quick off his line to block his shot.
Wulfs came out brighter at the start of the second half and went close when Ashley Burd’s half cleared corner was delivered back in by Jake Sedgemore and Nathan Rose-Laing headed just over.
The returning Kyle Brady and Mike Robertson were then introduced as Wulfs continued to press.
In the 70th minute Tom Piggott won possession on left and slid a pass across to Brady but his low shot flew just past the near post.
After soaking up this pressure, it was Dudley who opened the scoring in the 76th minute. Danny Ludlow’s diagonal free kick from the left caused problems and Rob Whitley nipped in to force the ball home from close range.
The lead should have been doubled two minutes later when Faux broke the offside trap and drew the last defender before squaring to Anthony Cox but Danny Tipton was out smartly to to save with his foot.
Just as it looked as though Dudley were going to complete a league double over Wulfs, the home side hit back with an equaliser four minutes from time.
Rose-Laing played a good ball out to Piggott and he cut inside his man and hit a low shot which Travalen blocked but the young striker was alert enough to fire home the rebound.
One minute in to injury time Danny Crudgington had a great chance to complete the comeback when he exchanged passes with Robertson before seeing his shot blocked in a crowded six yard box.
From there the ball went straight up the other end and Cox curled a shot just wide.
In the end a draw was a fair result.
