Wulfs slipped to only their second defeat in ten games as they went down 2-0 away at in-form Dudley Town.
It was Wulfs who were first to go close when Danny Crudgington beat keeper James Trevalen to a near post cross but flicked his shot on to the roof of the net.
That was as good as it got for Wulfs in the first half as Dudley took control.
In the 14th minute Wulfs keeper Marc Evans had to tip Chris Whittaker’s overhit cross over for a corner from which Rob Whitley should have done better with a free header.
Shortly after Danny Ludlow was foiled at close range by Evans after he had nipped in behind the defence to meet a cross-field ball.
Former Wulfs player Anthony Cox was next to force a save from Evans before young striker Ryan Francis-Mills lacked composure as he blazed a shot high and wide from a good position.
The goal that Town deserved finally came in the 29th minute and when it did come, it was a gift. Cox played a high ball over the top and a mix up between Graham Ashton and the keeper ended with the defender’s back header rolling agonisingly into the unguarded net for an own goal.
Wulfs almost hit back quickly when Rose-Laing’s fierce shot was saved well by the foot of Trevalen and Robin Sheffield’s follow up effort was deflected just past the upright with the keeper stranded.
Wulfs had the assistance of a strong wind in the second half but it was the home side who continued to control the game with Evans doing well to tip Ludlow’s free kick over the bar.
Wulfs best opportunity of the game came in the 52nd minute when Crudgington fired in an excellent curling shot which Trevalen did superbly well to tip around the post.
As the game got scrappy, Francis-Mills threatened on a couple of occasions for Dudley while Rabone screwed a shot wide at the other end.
Four minutes from time Dudley secured a deserved win when Ludlow delivered a low ball into the middle and an unmarked Ben Store finished with ease.
