Wulfs come from behind

A spirited second half display saw Wulfs come from behind to beat local rivals Sporting Khalsa 3-1.

After a cagy start, Wulfs slowly began to take control with Ricky Anslow millimetres away from getting on the end of a Tony Collins low cross before Chris Rabone went closer still when his 25 yard chip came back off the crossbar.

Anslow then hooked Danny Crudgington’s cross over the bar and Graham Ashton headed two free kicks wide of the target.

The best chance of the half came five minutes before the interval when a great move down the right ended with Anslow’s back-heel putting Nathan Rose-Laing in the clear but his shot was well saved by the outstretched arm of keeper Adam Lane.

After dominating the first half, Wulfs fell behind to Khalsa’s first effort at goal one minute into the second half. Marcus Jackson supplied the through ball for Nicky Campbell to beat the offside trap, round the keeper and roll into the empty net.

It took Wulfs just four minutes to level the scores when Ashton’s quick thinking at a free kick found Rabone out wide on the right and his early cross was headed into his own net by Khalsa skipper Robbie Holdcroft.

Wulfs continued to make all of the running and Crudgington fired just over after a good run that had seen him glide past three defenders.

Anslow was next to go close when he was denied by the legs of the keeper and Jake Sedgemore saw his shot deflect just wide after he had received the ball from a short corner.

The pressure finally told as Wulfs took the lead in the 79th minute. Ashley Burd intercepted a pass just inside his own half and played a good ball down the left to Anslow who cut inside his marker before firing into the far top corner from a narrow angle.

Four minutes later the victory was sealed when Rabone sent in a terrific cross from the right which Anslow headed home unchallenged from close range.
