Ricky Anslow marked his 200th appearance with two goals as Wulfs beat Bustleholme 4-0 at the Castlecroft Stadium.
In the end the scoreline was a bit flattering for the home side but the way they started, a big win did look on the cards.
In a frantic opening seven minutes Jake Sedgemore saw his low far post cross sliced away from the onrushing Anslow and Nathan Rose-Laing and the resulting corner was cleared out to Robin Sheffield and his low shot was diverted over the bar by Rose-Laing at close range.
An unmarked Sheffield then headed Anslow’s cross wide before Wulfs finally broke the deadlock in the 11th minute. Sedgemore was again the supplier with a diagonal ball which Anslow controlled and fired home at the far post.
Danny Crudgington then flashed a 20 yard shot just past the post before Wulfs extended their lead in the 16th minute when Anslow’s angled drive was pushed out by the keeper and Rose-Laing squared for Chris Rabone to fire home.
As Wulfs took their foot off the gas, Bustleholme upped their game and went close to pulling a goal back when Adam Burgess’ cross-field ball put Jamie Clews in the clear but he fired home with just the keeper to beat.
Clews had another good chance four minutes before the interval but he was foiled by a fine save by keeper Marc Evans.
Danny Bell then fired an angled drive on to the roof of the net as Bustleholme finished the half stronger.
The second half began as the first had finished with Evans having to save another one-on-one with Clews and when the loose ball was squared to Max Whitehouse, Dave Asbury was well placed to clear his effort off the line.
Rob Sargent then fired just over the angle of the goal for the visitors before Wulfs slowly began to regain control.
Rose-Laing was millimetres away from converting Anslow’s low cross before the same player created the third Wulfs goal when he dispossessed his man and squared for Crudgington to fire home from 10 yards.
Sedgemore then saw his fierce goal-bound drive headed away from goal before Bustleholme broke up the other end and Bell rolled a shot past the keeper but agonisingly wide of the far post.
Anslow set the seal on a fine victory three minutes from time when he ran on to substitute Grant Joshua’s excellent through ball and slotted past the keeper and then almost completed his hat-trick with a last minute shot that crashed back off the crossbar.
