Wulfs’ derby day success

Three goals in the final 14 minutes settled this local derby in the favour of Wulfs who now move up to 5th place in the table.

Wulfs opened up the stronger but it was Goodrich who created the game’s first chance when Chambers nipped in behind the defence and rounded keeper Evans before firing over from a narrow angle under pressure from the back-tracking Collins.

They had an even better chance shortly after when Lee met Jackson’s right wing corner with a powerful header which Evans did well to push over the bar.

Wulfs hit back with Palmer firing wide from the edge of the area and Mitchell heading Burd’s excellent deep cross into the side-netting from an acute angle.

More Wulfs pressure late in the half saw Mitchell fire over from 12 yards after a good cut back from Rose-Laing, an unmarked Ashton heading a Burd corner wide and Palmer firing wide after an excellent break out of defence involving Ashton and Rose-Laing.

The second half saw Wulfs continuing on the offensive with Rose-Laing sending a close range header over the bar and Eagles diverting a Rabone long-range shot just wide with the keeper wrong-footed.

Wulfs did get the ball in the net following a scramble after Sedgemore’s long range free kick had been saved but the linesman’s flag came to Goodrich’s rescue.

The goal that the game needed finally came in the 76th minute. Rabone retrieved a deep cross from the left and delivered an early low ball back in for Eagles to sweep home at the near post.

Crudgington then tested the keeper with a fierce long range shot before Wulfs extended their lead in the 82nd minute. Crudgington did well on the right wing before crossing in for Rose-Laing to head from close range.

In injury time substitute Anslow weaved his way into the area before being fetched down from behind by Jackson. Crudgington made no mistake from the resulting penalty.

The final 3-0 score line was a bit harsh on the home side but earned a vital three points for Wulfs.
