U18’s in five star show

A hat-trick from Ryan Bright and a brace from Mike Brookes helped Wulfs put a two week enforced lay off behind them as they beat Coleshill Town 5-2 at the Castlecroft Stadium.

Wulfs punished the visitors slow start by opening up a two goal lead in the first 9 minutes.

First Benji Gutteridge played a good low ball in from the left and Brookes swivelled before hitting a shot that deflected up over the keeper and in to the net.

Then, one minute later, Jack Marsh cut a ball from the right and Bright saw his first effort blocked but he showed good awareness to fire home the rebound.

Liam Wilkinson then had a shot blocked at close range before Coleshill got themselves back in to the game with a goal in the 16th minute. James Thomas won possession in midfield before driving forward and squaring for Aaron Brewer to force home from close in.

Wulfs restored their two goal advantage just four minutes later when Jordan Dyer failed to intercept Wilkinson’s through ball allowing Brookes to run on and fire past the keeper.

It got better still as Wulfs extended their lead in the 24th minute. Again Gutteridge was the supplier from the left with Bright scoring with another assured finish.

A 5th goal followed in the 26th minute as Bright completed his hat-trick by pouncing on a goalkeeping error to roll into the empty net.

An Alex Haynes downward header then brought a good save from the keeper and Rob Whatton went close with a long range shot that was pushed wide but gradually the game became scrappy.

Just before the interval Thomas won possession for the visitors before sending a 30 yard shot just wide of Chris Ryan’s upright.

Early in the second half Bright and Jack Purdie were replaced by Jack Martin and Rob Mills but Wulfs continued to rediscover the form of the opening half hour.

Coleshill were given a lifeline courtesy of a 69th minute penalty from Alex Correr after a rash challenge in the area.

Martin then headed a Mills free kick just over the bar before Jacob Craner was brought on for the final quarter of an hour and showed great promise on his debut.
