Wulfs travelled to Malvern on an unusually hot autumnal afternoon with two new players in their ranks, Ashley Burd and Jake Sedgemore.
Despite the heat, Wulfs made a bright start and dominated the opening stages but found themselves a goal behind on 8 minutes when an attempted one-two on the edge of the area deflected into the path of Dave Reynolds and he fired past keeper Raajan Gill.
Within three minutes parity was restored as new boy Ashley Burd intercepted Robin Sheffield’s long range shot and rounded the last defender before slotting past the keeper.
Sheffield and Sedgemore then went close with headers and Andy Mitchell forced Ian Hill into an excellent full length save after Burd had crossed in from the left.
Malvern had a great chance to restore their lead in the 40th minute when Reynolds broke the offside trap but his attempted chip went straight into the arms of Gill and he was made to pay as Wulfs took the lead just one minute later. Burd was again the provider with a deep cross that Mick Eagles headed back across goal and into the far corner of the net.
Wulfs extended their lead five minutes into the second half when a sharp break ended with Danny Crudgington lifting a ball into the far post for Nathan Rose-Laing to head home at close range.
Malvern gave themselves a 55th minute lifeline when Rob Cullen’s deep inswinging corner was cleared off the line at the far post but the linesman flagged to point out the ball had crossed the line.
Ricky Anslow was introduced into the game and his pace caused the home defence all sorts of problems. Firstly he raced to the byline before cutting back for Andy Mitchell to fire just over at the near post and then earned a penalty in the 80th minute after being brought down when skipping past his man in the inside left channel. Danny Crudgington made no mistake from the resulting spot kick.
To their credit, Malvern continued to push forward and went close to pulling another goal back when Joe Leighton headed a Reynolds corner over the bar from close range.
Wulfs held out to pick up all 3 points from their first league game for over a month.
