Anslow double downs Flyers

Wulfs put Saturday’s setback against Bewdley Town firmly behind them as they picked up a solid 3-1 win away at LyeTown.

After conceding in the first minute on Saturday, Wulfs turned the tables by opening the scoring in the first minute when Ricky Anslow chased down an headed back pass and forced the keeper into a mistake before rolling the ball in to the empty net.

Lye hit back an found an equaliser in the 8th minute when Mark Danks cut in from the left before firing a low shot past keeper Marc Evans.

The action continued to move from end to end with Danny Crudgington going close after a quick break away involving Anslow and Nathan Rose-Laing.

Anslow then saw a deflected shot and a diving header go just wide before Wulfs regained their lead in the 24th minute. Rose-Laing chased a ball down the right channel before passing back to Crudgington who sent in an awkward cross which the keeper failed to deal with allowing Anslow to force the loose ball home from close range.

Lye almost levelled again when a dangerous free kick from Kalum Evitts was sliced goalwards by a Wulfs defender but Evans did well to tip over the bar.

Chris Poyntz then lifted a one-on-one on to the roof of the net before Wulfs went back on the attack and increased their lead in the 38th minute. Anslow nicked possession for Ashley Burd to play a good ball down the inside left channel which Crudgington helped on to Rose-Laing who cut back past his man before firing low past the keeper.

Anslow had a great chance to complete his hat-trick at the start of the second half when he beat the offside trap and rounded the keeper but screwed his shot into the side netting from a narrow angle.

Anslow was causing the home defence all sorts of problems and went close again when he cut inside from the left before curling a shot just past the far post.

Lye were given a great chance to get back into the game nine minutes from time when they were awarded a penalty after the ball had struck a defender’s hand. Fortunately for Wulfs, Evans guessed the right way to keep out Damian Whitcombe’s spot kick and Robin Sheffield got back to clear Evitts’ scrambled follow up effort off the line.

Lye keeper Tom Harper pulled off a good late save from substitute Chris Rabone but Wulfs had already done enough to secure the points.
